Join us for an immersive and hands-on experience led by Bushmama Africa as she guides you through the ancient art of indigo dyeing. Dive into the deep and rich world of blues as you learn traditional techniques passed down through generations, bringing out your inner artist to create stunning patterns on fabrics.
This is more than a workshop—it’s a journey into history and heritage. “With the everyday, run-of-the-mill African American who has their jeans on, I want them to look down and say, ‘This is my royalty, this is my lineage,’” says Bushmama Africa. “I want people to go away knowing we are not forgotten, and this is what we brought to the table.”
Bushmama Africa’s vision for The Indigo Project began in New Orleans in 2017 as a “spiritual assignment.” The indigo cloth was worn as a royal garment by early dynasties in Nigeria, and the intricate designs told stories of origin and identity. Now, you have the chance to explore this powerful legacy while contributing your creativity.
